What a class looks like

Each session starts with a safety briefing and gear check before launching Optimist dinghies into Tai Tam Bay. Children practise dinghy sailing skills under qualified instructor guidance, with progressive skill-building across the 12-week term. Sessions finish with debriefing and boat pack-down.

Right for your child?

Kids who want to develop sailing skills beyond a one-week camp. No prior experience required — beginners and returning sailors welcome. Participants must be confident in the water while wearing a buoyancy aid.

A structured 12-session term programme building dinghy sailing competency progressively week by week under qualified instructors.

Dinghy sailing mastery, water confidence, lifelong ocean skills, and progression toward independent sailing.

About

A weekly Optimist Youth Sailing Club running on Saturdays or Sundays throughout the autumn term. Under expert, qualified instructors, children master dinghy sailing, build water confidence, and learn lifelong ocean skills. Participants can also join the Hobiemist Cadet Programme to co-own one of six colourful Optimists and enjoy deep discounts on courses.

Before your first class

Arrive at Stanley Main Beach at 8:45am for morning sessions or 1:00pm for afternoon sessions. Bring a snack, water bottle, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, water shoes covering toes and heel, flip flops, a complete change of clothes, and a windproof/waterproof jacket.
