What a class looks like

Sessions combine short demonstrations with plenty of hands-on bench work. You learn a hand skill — marking out, preparing timber, cutting a joint, sharpening a tool or finishing a surface — then apply it directly to your own footstool project, with a small amount of machine use.

A short introduction to woodworking taught by a German master carpenter, focusing on core hand skills: marking out, material preparation, joint cutting, tool sharpening and surface finishing, with a small amount of machine use. Each participant designs and builds their own footstool or similar item, choosing from different classic wood joints, with two pieces of walnut or teak provided. It is a good starting point for anyone keen to take up woodworking as a serious hobby.
